NERVE INJECTIONS & HYDRODISSECTION

Carpal tunnel, sciatic, & nerve injections in Raleigh, NC

ORTHOPEDIC NERVE COMPRESSIONS WE TREAT

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Compression of the median nerve at the wrist, causing pain, numbness, and tingling in the hand and fingers, particularly the thumb, index, and middle fingers.

  • Piriformis Syndrome: Compression of the sciatic nerve by the piriformis muscle in the buttock, leading to pain, numbness, and tingling radiating down the leg.

  • Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome: Compression of the tibial nerve as it passes through the tarsal tunnel near the ankle, causing foot and ankle pain, numbness, and tingling.

  • Cubital Tunnel Syndrome: Compression of the ulnar nerve at the elbow, leading to numbness, tingling, and weakness in the ring and little fingers.

  • Lateral Femoral Cutaneous Nerve Entrapment (Meralgia Paresthetica): Compression of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve, causing tingling, numbness, and pain in the outer thigh.

  • Median Nerve Entrapment: Compression of the median nerve at various points along the arm, causing pain, numbness, and weakness, commonly seen in conditions like pronator syndrome.

  • Sciatica: Compression of the sciatic nerve in the lower back, often due to a herniated disc or spinal stenosis, causing radiating pain, numbness, and weakness down the leg.

HOW WE TREAT NERVE PAIN

Nerve Injections

  • Procedure: A needle is inserted near the targeted nerve, and medication is injected under local anesthesia.  ALWAYS performed with ultrasound guidance for accuracy.

  • Benefits: Provides targeted pain relief, reduces inflammation, and can serve as a diagnostic tool to confirm nerve involvement.

  • Types of Medications Used: Corticosteroids (to reduce inflammation), local anesthetics (for temporary pain relief), and sometimes platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for tissue healing.

Nerve Hydrodissection

  • Purpose: A technique used to treat nerve entrapment or irritation by separating the nerve from surrounding tissues using a saline solution or other fluids.

  • Procedure: A needle is inserted near the compressed nerve, and a fluid is injected around the nerve to gently release it from the surrounding tissues or scar tissue.

  • Benefits: Reduces nerve compression, improves mobility, and provides pain relief by hydrating the nerve and surrounding tissues.

Ultrasound-Guided Nerve Injections: Ultrasound-guided nerve injections are a minimally invasive procedure used to target specific nerves for pain relief and diagnosis. Using real-time ultrasound imaging, healthcare providers can accurately locate and visualize nerves, tissues, and surrounding structures. This precision allows for the delivery of medications, such as corticosteroids, local anesthetics, or platelet-rich plasma (PRP), directly to the nerve or its surrounding area, improving the effectiveness of the injection while minimizing the risk of injury to nearby structures. These injections are commonly used in the management of chronic pain conditions, including nerve entrapment, radiculopathy (nerve root compression), and other musculoskeletal disorders such as tendinopathies or ligament injuries. Ultrasound guidance offers several advantages over traditional methods, including improved accuracy, reduced procedure time, and better patient comfort. The ability to see the needle’s trajectory and exact placement in real time reduces the likelihood of incorrect needle positioning, which can lead to ineffective treatment or complications. Patients undergoing ultrasound-guided nerve injections often experience significant pain relief, increased mobility, and improved function. The procedure is typically performed in outpatient settings, and recovery time is minimal. However, the effectiveness of the treatment may vary depending on the underlying condition and the individual’s response to the injection.
