WHAT IS SPORTS MEDICINE?
Sports medicine is a branch of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of injuries and conditions related to physical activity and exercise for almost any age of patient.
You do not need to be a professional athlete to seek treatment from the sports medicine specialists at Carolina Nonsurgical Orthopedics. In fact, most of our patients are simply trying to stay active in what they love most, whether it be walking, running, tennis, pickleball, golf, and many other activities.
Please note that while we are happy to treat high school athletes (and we do see a large number of them), the youngest patient we can see is 14 years old.
KEY AREAS OF SPORTS MEDICINE
Injury Prevention: Sports medicine specialists work on educating athletes about proper techniques, conditioning, and strategies to prevent injuries.
Diagnosis and Treatment of Sports Injuries: Injuries like sprains, strains, fractures, ligament tears, tendonitis, and dislocations are common in sports. Sports medicine physicians diagnose these injuries and provide treatment plans that may include physical therapy, rest, medications, or minimally invasive procedures.
SPORTS MEDICINE INJURY TREATMENT
As with most orthopedic conditions, patients will often begin with a combination of physical therapy, anti-inflammatories, ice and rest (and in some cases, steroid injections). When these methods are no longer effective, Carolina Nonsurgical Orthopedics offers the latest in cutting-edge treatments to reduce pain and get you back to the activities you enjoy.
