WHAT ARE VISCOSUPPLEMENTATION INJECTIONS (AKA LUBRICANT OR ROOSTER COMB)?
At Carolina Nonsurgical Orthopedics, one of the many options we offer is viscosupplementation (gel/H.A.), also called "rooster comb" injections. These injections act as a lubricant inside of the knee joint.
WHAT IS THE SUCCESS RATE?
Viscosupplementation (Rooster Comb) are generally about 50-60% effective for reducing knee pain based on current studies. Some medical societies have gone so far as to advise against using gel injections as they have such a poor success rate.
We do offer other orthobiologic treatments with higher success rates, such as PRP, SuperPRP, and MFAT cell transfers. These treatments have a success rate closer to 80-90% based on current studies.

NOTE: We do offer a Self Pay rate for those patients that have insurance that does not cover the medications we stock in-office.
