How Our PRP Is Different
Not all PRP treatments are the same.
At Carolina Nonsurgical Orthopedics, PRP is not a one-size-fits-all injection. Every treatment is physician-performed, ultrasound-guided, and customized to your specific injury, anatomy, and goals.
Physician-Performed PRP
Your PRP procedure is performed by an experienced physician, not delegated to someone with limited musculoskeletal injection training. This matters because accurate diagnosis, target selection, and injection technique can significantly affect the quality of the treatment.
Ultrasound-Guided Accuracy
We use ultrasound guidance to visualize the exact structures being treated. This allows us to place PRP precisely into the injured tendon, ligament, joint, or surrounding soft tissue. Rather than simply injecting “where it hurts,” we evaluate the full pain pattern and treat the structures most likely contributing to your symptoms.
Higher-Volume Blood Draws
Many basic PRP treatments use small blood draws. Our PRP protocols often use 60 mL to 120 mL of blood, depending on the condition being treated and the number of areas involved. A larger draw may allow us to create a more robust, customized PRP preparation for more complete treatment of the involved tissues.
We shoot for the target of 10 billion platelets delivered for a large joint (knee, hip shoulder), based on many recent studies.
Multiple Targets for One Complaint
Pain is often not caused by just one structure. Knee pain, shoulder pain, hip pain, or tendon pain may involve several related targets. For example, one complaint may require treatment of a joint, tendon, ligament, bursa, or surrounding soft tissues. Our approach is to identify and treat the full problem, not just perform a single injection.
13 Years of Experience
We have been performing PRP and regenerative orthopedic procedures for 13 years. That experience helps us tailor treatment plans based on the patient, the condition, the severity of injury, and what has or has not worked before.
Customized to Each Patient
Your PRP plan is built around your specific diagnosis, imaging findings, activity level, pain pattern, and goals. Some patients need a focused injection. Others may benefit from a broader treatment plan that addresses multiple pain generators in the same visit.
Combination Treatment Options
When appropriate, we may combine PRP with other nonsurgical treatments, including: Hyaluronic acid injections for joint lubrication and arthritis support
Shockwave therapy to stimulate healing in chronic tendon or soft tissue conditions. Targeted rehabilitation guidance to support recovery after the procedure. These options allow us to build a more complete nonsurgical plan rather than relying on a single treatment.
A More Comprehensive PRP Approach
Our goal is simple: deliver precise, physician-guided, customized PRP care designed around the real source of your pain. If you are considering PRP, it is important to ask not only whether PRP is being offered, but how it is being performed, who is performing it, what structures are being treated, and whether the plan is customized to your condition.
