We have treated youth athletes with PRP for the last 11 years, and as a parent himself, Dr. Kanaan takes great care in making sure treatments are safe for his younger patients. Carolina Nonsurgical Orthopedics will see patients that are in high school or older (14+). We do not see children.
Common Injuries
Injuries and conditions of the bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints experienced by young athletes can be very different than with adult patients. Also, children and teens are not simply small adults, and are highly unlikely to speak out or advocate for themselves about the health problems they may be experiencing.
We do not perform steroid injections in any patients under the age of 18. If treatment is needed, we will only use PRP (platelet-rich plasma) in a patient under the age of 18. If you have questions, please call to see if we can help, prior to making an appointment for a minor: (919) 719-2270
The most common youth injuries we treat with PRP are:
UCL tears
Meniscus tears
Tendonitis (patellar, elbow)
Shoulder pain
Labral tears
OCD lesions
NOTE: PRP is not a replacement when surgery is absolutely necessary. We work closely with surgeons in the Raleigh area, and if we agree with the need for a surgeon, we will not perform the PRP injection.
